Where Does the SCOTUS Obamacare Decision Leave Cuccinelli?

As I said two years ago and several times since then, the suit challenging Obamacare was destined for failure. Today, unfortunately, we have further proof that I am all-knowing.

As winners and losers go, there are some obvious ones. Indeed, now that his hallmark case has been shot down (by a conservative jurist no less), Cuccinelli’s star isn’t shining so brightly. Probably not enough to derail his gubernatorial bid, but it should help check his ego somewhat.

Delgaudio Plagiarizing?

In an email blast yesterday, Supervisor Eugene Delgaudio called the Metro the “Death Star of Debt.”

Hmmm. Now where have I heard that Death Star reference before?

Relevant portion of email below the fold.

DELGAUDIO CALLS METRO “DEATH STAR OF DEBT”.

All the financing options being discussed are dependent on increased taxes for somebody or everybody. There is no federal money for this. Zero.

To say “yes” to Metro would mean “yes” to whatever costs come down the line for construction, operating funds and minimum expected safety improvements and upgrades which have gone unfunded for 30 years!

With Sterling homeowners having to pay all the costs if financing has not been worked out and we, you and I, would be the “backstop” when landowners say “no way” or five new supervisors decide raising property taxes is simpler. I hope you tell the b o s what you think (yes or no) at bos@loudoun.gov

“Rot in Hell!”

That’s what was shouted at Jerry Sandusky this evening as he walked out of the Centre County courthouse after having been convicted of raping several young boys.

I shout it, too, and not only at Sandusky, but all those despicable Penn State coaches, janitors and administrators who enabled it for more than 15 years.

Forget the Diamond Earrings, Dear

I’m sure that a contribution to the O’s campaign in lieu of a sweet anniversary gift is just what every girl wants.

First the “Dinner with Barry Sweepstakes,” then exploiting his own kids in fundraising ads and now this. The man knows no shame.

Redskins as a Political Issue - The Latest Fumble by Loudoun Dems

First of all, I have no idea how my non-Lloyd email address ended up on the Loudoun County Democrats' distribution list. Although I could probably just unsubscribe, it's always good for a laugh or two. Like today.

In the latest missive, LCDC chairman Evan "Out, damned spot!" Macbeth posts a list of demands directed to Chairman York including a demand that he

"show leadership by going to Richmond, flanked by every fellow Republican elected official in the County, and demand Gov. McDonnell be held accountable for stealing the Redskins with state-provided financial incentives . . ."

Really? They were stolen? And McDonnell stole them? Nice try.

Now it does go on to say, "even as Loudoun has to fight tooth and nail for our share of state funding for our schools," but trying to pin Danny Boy's summer camp move to Richmond on McDonnell is ridiculous to begin with and particularly absurd as a political issue. Hell, it was McDonnell that got them to stay in the Commonwealth in the first place.

It's no suprise that Macbeth calls upon "every fellow Republican official in the County" to march on Richmond - cuz there sure ain't no Dems. And, with junk like this, it looks like it's going to stay that way for a while.

Maybe they just need to get Jessica Simpson out of the stands.

Come to the Dark Side, BOS!

Seduced by the popularity of Metro to Loudoun (supposedly 80% of Loudoun residents support it), the push of other notable Republicans (Wolf and McDonnell) and the political support of those who stand to benefit financially from its construction (MC Dean), the Loudon County Board of Supervisors almost hypnotically draws closer and closer to the Dark Side of politics, that being reckless blank-check spending. Supervisors York, Buona and Letourneau already have boarded the Death Star. Volpe is on her way and Reid will just follow the majority like a weak-willed storm trooper.
And the circle will be complete.

Make no mistake, I like the idea of Metro. However, I also expect well-reasoned decisions from my elected representatives, and the BOS has done none of its homework here. They haven’t agreed on how we’re going to pay for it, or even how much it’s going to cost. No doubt, if they came out with information on special tax districts or confirmed property tax increases for everyone, the support numbers would drop dramatically. But they haven’t done that, effectively capitalizing on the childish excitement of something shiny and new without doing the grown-up analysis of the price. And, in the process, they wholly abandon the promise of fiscal conservatism upon which they were elected.

Listen, I’d rather spend the Metro billions on widening Rte. 7, opening I-66 inside the beltway, my own personal HOV lane with a police escort, and my own helipad. Since those are equally unlikely, I choose Metro. Like I’ve said before, it is the only meaningful transportation thing going. In essence, my support is a desperation move.

That is, a desperation move to the Dark Side.

UPDATED: Matt Letourneau’s exhaustive statement on Metro provides some additional insight on the Death Star construction costs along with his thoughts on paying for it.

Three Robocalls Make for One Easy Choice – George Allen

Yesterday, I received three recorded messages from the campaigns of the three candidates for U.S. Senate.

  • Susan Allen left a message on behalf of George Allen. Very polished, professional and positive. Exactly what I have come to expect of her – even if George can be more folksy.

  • Bob Marshall left a message urging me to vote for him, citing, as one reason, his successful effort to scuttle the nomination of “a gay, liberal, activist judge” (note that he makes the same claim on his website, but leaves out the “gay” tag. An interesting difference, I thought).

  • Jeff Frederick and another former RPV chairman left a message in support of Jamie Radtke. As if the messenger wasn’t enough of a loser, Frederick offered a losing message in trying to question Allen’s conservative bona fides. Epic failure like the rest of her campaign.

As brief as these calls were, they were perfectly emblematic of the respective campaigns: Susan Allen has been a great vote getter for George, Marshall has been pandering to the extreme right, and Radtke just doesn’t have it going on at all. It all makes for an even easier decision come Tuesday. Aside from being the best of the three, Allen had the nomination locked up from day one, which is why I expect him to garner at least 70% of the vote. The unity and enthusiasm reflected in such a result undoubtedly will generate even greater momentum for the campaign and draw more independent support for George.

And it’s also sure to scare the crap out of Tim Kaine.

The Private Sector is Fine and Other Teleprompter-Withdrawal Hallucinations

Fast following a bizarre claim to moderate spending while in office, President Obama comes up with another winner: The private sector is “doing fine.“ With the longest sustained period of high unemployment since the Great Depression and a deflationary spiral right around the corner, one must ask: Is he delusional or is he just stupid?

Oh, wait, he wasn’t using a teleprompter.

That explains it . . .

Wolf Wants the Choo-Choo, Too

In a letter to Loudoun Board of Supervisors Chairman Scott York, Rep. Frank Wolf reaffirmed his support for Phase 2 of the Metrorail extension into Loudoun, especially now that the PLA issues have been addressed:

As you know, I have and continue to support Dulles Rail. It is perhaps the most significant transportation project in the region since the construction of the initial Metrorail system. The benefits of extending the system to Dulles Airport and Loudoun County are too numerous to list. Can anyone imagine what the Metropolitan Washington region would look like without Metro?

Today’s decision by the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) Board of Directors to abolish the 10-point contracting preference for companies that agreed to sign a Project Labor Agreement (PLA) is a positive step in making Phase 2 a reality. I believe that the board’s decision to drop any preference for a PLA will open up the Phase 2 bidding process to more competition and comply with Virginia laws. It should also lead to lower costs on the project and lower tolls on drivers.

Just to poke a little fun at LI, is Wolf now one of your Sleazeball Republicans? [insert smilie face here]. Further to that point, though, where are the "conservatives" so adamantly opposed to Metro yet so adamantly supportive of every single elected Republican official on every single issue? Caught in a corner, perhaps?
